About Melissa

Melissa is a Partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department.

She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2007 whereupon she joined Lee & Lee to serve pupillage, and was called to the Singapore bar in 2008.

Melissa handles a diverse range of civil and commercial litigation work. 

With a focus on corporate and commercial disputes, she has acted for various listed companies, private corporations, partnerships and individuals in commercial disputes involving issues of contract, directors’ duties, partners’ duties and shareholders’ rights. She has also represented local banks, financial institutions, as well as individuals in banking disputes, debt-recovery claims and enforcement matters. She has also advised and acted for various corporations and financial institutions in matters involving liquidation and judicial management proceedings. 

Melissa is also on the panel of lawyers for medical negligence insurers and acts for medical professionals in various civil suits commenced by patients, complaints to the Singapore Medical Council, disciplinary proceedings and coroner’s inquiries.

Other areas of work experience include advising on and acting in employment disputes, estate litigation disputes and acting for both corporations and individuals in landlord-tenant disputes.

Case Highlights

• Representing directors of a listed company before the High Court in relation to corporate governance issues.

• Representing an individual in regulatory investigations involving storage of cord blood units in storage tanks. 

• Representing a local agricultural company in successfully mounting a claim of more than $1 million against a former director and his competing company for breach of fiduciary duties and breach of contract. 

• Representing an individual in successfully proving good title to a car purchased from a second hand car dealer and making a claim for losses against the finance company 

• Representing a registered medical practitioner in a medical negligence suit in the High Court relating to complications arising after an eye procedure, which was successfully resolved before trial.

• Representing a cardiothoracic surgeon in a medical negligence suit in the High Court relating to issues arising after cardiac surgery.

• Representing a surgeon in a High Court medical negligence suit involving an alleged missed cancer diagnosis.

• Representing an infectious disease specialist in a District Court medical negligence suit relating to HIV treatment. 

• Representing medical practitioners in a Coroner’s Inquiry involving a patient’s death due to hornet stings
